Sam Federico's training and experience told him that water is very important to hair and skin care. Chlorine in tap water damages the proteins in hair and skin. Chlorine is very damaging to hair and makes it difficult to color and style hair. Chlorine also dries skin and accelerates aging. Sam decided to do something about the water as he planned a major remodel and expansion of their Fresno campus. Since the LifeSource Water System installation in 2006, their stylists get richer hair color results. The College also now enjoys LifeSource's mineral rich water in their skin care, face and body spa, and in their steam and vichy shower treatments.

Samuel A. Federico and his wife, Ann, co-founded the first Federico Beauty College in Stockton, CA in 1946. The two later opened or purchased existing schools in Fresno, Bakersfield, and Sacramento, CA. After Sam's untimely death in 1954, Ann Federico continued the operation. Today the Federico Colleges, Inc. are owned and operated by the son of the co-founders, Samuel B. Federico and his wife, Linda Federico. In October 2009, the Federico Family will be celebrating 63 years of Career Education.
