Whole House Water Filter at Trina Turk's Soleil House
When Trina Turk restored a 1963 Palm Springs midcentury, every system in the home had to earn its place — including the water.

The Home
A full gut renovation. A 1963 hillside relic in the Cahuilla Hills, vacant for years, acquired by fashion designer Trina Turk and rebuilt from the studs. The finished home was named Soleil House, featured in C Magazine, and opened for public tours during Modernism Week 2026.
Turk has been a part-time Palm Springs resident for nearly three decades and a board member of the Palm Springs Modern Committee. Soleil House was her first solo renovation project — a 2,300-square-foot midcentury on two floors that she took down to the bones, removing layers of neglect to restore the character as it was originally intended.
The design choices throughout reflect the same principles behind her fashion brand: color, print, and optimism. Matte Fireclay tile in the kitchen and bathrooms. Honed marble surfaces. Terrazzo floors rich with honey and amber-colored stone. Nothing shiny. Everything considered.
Hard Water in the Desert — Why It Matters in a Renovation
Hard water is a standard condition in Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley. The region's water supply carries elevated levels of calcium and magnesium minerals that leave scale on fixtures, shorten the lifespan of water heaters and appliances, and require constant cleaning of surfaces that show mineral deposits.
In most homes, that is a maintenance nuisance. In a design-driven renovation where the finishes are the point, it becomes a material consideration.
Matte tile and honed stone — the surfaces Turk chose throughout Soleil House — show water spots and mineral buildup more than glazed finishes do. Terrazzo is porous and susceptible to etching from mineral-heavy water over time. A whole-house system that conditions water and prevents scale protects the investment in those surfaces from day one.
Chlorine taste and odor are also a factor. Municipal water treatment in Southern California uses chlorine as a disinfectant, which affects how water tastes at the tap, how it feels in the shower, and how it interacts with food and beverages prepared at home.
What LifeSource Installed
LifeSource salt-free whole-house water filtration was installed at Soleil House during the renovation.
The system treats water at the main line, before it reaches any tap, shower, appliance, or fixture in the home. Every faucet in the kitchen, every bathroom, the laundry, and the outdoor connections all run on the same clean, filtered, conditioned water.
Salt-free means no sodium added to the water, no wastewater discharge, and no environmental impact from brine. Minimal regular maintenance. No salt bags. No regular filter changes for years.
For a renovation designed to eliminate friction from daily living, that profile fits.
Why Whole-House, Not Point-of-Use
Pitcher filters and under-sink reverse osmosis systems protect one tap. Useful, but the rest of the home — the showers, the laundry, the appliances, the fixtures — remains untreated.
In a home where the finishes and surfaces matter throughout, protecting only the kitchen sink does not hold up. Scale buildup does not discriminate by room. A whole-house system means the investment in surfaces and appliances is protected from day one, in every room.
For homeowners in the Coachella Valley undertaking a renovation at this level, that is the relevant calculation: one installation that covers every water source, versus a patchwork of point-of-use solutions that still leave most of the home exposed.

Frequently Asked Questions — Water Filtration in Palm Springs
Is hard water a problem in Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley?
Yes. The Coachella Valley draws water from sources with elevated mineral content, resulting in hard water that leaves scale on fixtures and appliances, shortens water heater life, and requires more cleaning of glass, tile, and stone surfaces. A whole-house system that conditions water and prevents scale protects both the plumbing and the finishes throughout the home.
What is a salt-free water filtration system?
A salt-free system conditions water to prevent scale buildup without adding sodium or generating wastewater. It differs from a traditional salt-based softener, which requires monthly salt refills, adds sodium to the water, and discharges brine. Salt-free systems require minimal regular maintenance and have no environmental discharge.
Does LifeSource filter drinking water throughout the home?
Yes. LifeSource treats water at the main line, so every tap in the home — kitchen, bathrooms, showers, laundry — receives filtered, conditioned water. This differs from pitcher filters or under-sink systems, which cover only one point of use.
Does LifeSource serve Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley?
Yes. LifeSource installs and services systems throughout Southern California, including Palm Springs, Palm Desert, Rancho Mirage, Indian Wells, and the surrounding Coachella Valley communities.
How long does a LifeSource system last?
LifeSource systems are designed for long-term performance with no regular filter changes for years and minimal ongoing maintenance. Systems are backed by a lifetime warranty.
