Richard Karn Wilson was born in Seattle, Washington to parents Gene and Louise. He studied acting at the University of Washington and initially worked as an apartment building manager before making his big break on the popular TV show Home Improvement, which ran from 1991-1999. Karn dropped his surname after discovering that the Screen Actors Guild already had a registered actor by the name of Richard Wilson.
